WELCOME & ORIENTATION

Welcome to Christ Church Deer Park's summer reading study and thank you for checking us out.  We will be reading and reflecting on Adult Faith by Irish author Diarmuid O'Murchu and having electronic conversations about it (via blog) on a weekly basis.  So, read on to see if this is for you.

The Book:  Diarmuid O'Murchu is a priest and social scientist who currently lives in England.  In Adult Faith, he addresses the millions of people whom he considers to be pilgrims, those looking for religion beyond the beliefs they were given as children.  O'Murchu maintains that these seekers comprise "a spiritual revolution from the ground up, and it is here to stay."  He wrote Adult Faith as a resource for those making a journey into adult spirituality.  Look inside here http://www.amazon.ca/Adult-Faith-Growing-Wisdom-Understanding/dp/1570758867.

The Pace: We will work through Adult Faith at a relaxed pace.  (It is summer, after all.)  The book has 15 chapters plus an introduction.  The blog opens the week of June 23rd with some preliminary questions and a chance to become familiar with the blog technology.  After that, we suggest two chapters per week so the text will be finished by the end of August, with an opportunity for wrap up and closing thoughts. The book study will be over by Labour Day.

Your Participation:   The suggested chapters will be listed on the blog each week.  At your leisure, privately read and reflect on them.  Consider the questions and prompts if you like.  Then, share your own thoughts, read what others are saying, and strike up a "conversation" with them via the blog.  Try to participate electronically at least once a week.  More often if the spirit moves you.

I have been meaning to post all week - but was reluctant to until I actually had the book in hand. Thanks to Ward for leaving it at the desk at CCDP and my niece for picking it up and bringing it to the cottage, I now have it, and will begin to read it this week-end. I admit that I am less interested in Part I - deconstructing the past - than I am in Part II - the reconstruction. But I might find the first Part more interesting and challenging than I expect. I look forward to seeing if this is the case.
